7 EASY STEPS TO PEN TURNING

1. Select pen blank, cut to correct length, (about 1/16 to 1/8 inch longer than the tube.) This allows for the trimming of the blank.

Drill required size hole through all pieces of the blank.

(7mm, 23/64, 3/8 etc.)

2. Glue brass tubes supplied in pen (pencil) kit into cut blanks.

(Use CA or Epoxy)

3. Trim ends of pen blanks using a barrel trimmer. This will square the

Ends of the blank with the inserted tube and also clean out any glue

In the tube. DO NOT TRIM THE TUBE. Length Is

Very Important.

4. Mount pen blank (blanks) onto pen mandrel mounted on the lathe.

Use proper size bushings for the pen (pencil) being turned. Bushings

Act as a visual gauge for the final diameter of the finished blank.

When mounting the pen mandrel on the lathe do not over tighten the

Tail stock, Use a 60 degree live center or mandrel saver tailstock

Center. (PSI Industries). Do not tighten knurled knob until the live

Center is against the end of the pen mandrel. This could cause the

Pen mandrel bend.

5. Turn pen (pencil) to desired shape and sand to 400 grit

6. Apply finish of your choice to turned pen (pencil) blanks.

7. Assemble pen (pencil) according to instructions.
